Women in Technology – Tammy Richards

At Perseus, we’re proud to celebrate the voices and experiences of women leaders across our organization. We sat down with inspiring women in our various portfolios to hear their perspectives on working in technology, navigating leadership, and embracing innovation.

In this conversation, Tammy Richards, Director of Business Operations at DIS, shares her empowering leadership philosophy and personal journey within the tech industry. She emphasizes a management style rooted in trust and autonomy, encouraging her team to take ownership and chart their own paths toward success. Tammy also reflects on her experience as a woman in technology, highlighting the supportive and innovative culture at Constellation and within the Dealer Portfolio Group.

My name is Tammy Richards. I’m the Director of Business Operations with DIS (Dealer Information Systems.) As a leader in our business, I would say that my management style is very much one that fosters ownership for what my team provides and brings to the table. I like to give them sort of a high-level roadmap if this is where I need you to get, and then I’ll let them kind of drive their way there.

As a woman working in the technology industry, I can say that I have felt very nurtured and very fostered within Constellation and within the Dealer Portfolio in general. I came in and was provided with ample opportunity to move about in different roles, and it felt very safe and very fostered in the sense that I was told always to try different things, be creative, be innovative, and if it fails, you fail and you move on and it’s a lesson learned. And then we move to the next thing.

When I think about the future of women in technology, I’m inspired by the progress we’ve made and hopeful that the momentum continues to build. I think it’s been really refreshing and really invigorating to see the opportunities that women have within Constellation and within this organization in general. I want to see where it doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman and whether you’re just the right person to bring that validity to the job.

On a parting note, I would like to share with everybody today is that my time so far at Constellation has been incredibly valuable to me. I spent 19 years with the same company prior to coming on board with Constellation, and I can say I’ve never looked back. They have such an innovative approach with the buy and hold mentality that they do with businesses, so I think it gives you an opportunity to feel confident that we can we can try different things, we can be experimental and we don’t have to worry about the turn and burn philosophy of a lot of these investment groups that are out there.
