Inside the Homebuilder Group: Leadership Perspectives from Across the Portfolio

What’s it really like to operate a software business inside the Perseus Group? We sat down with three leaders from our Homebuilding portfolio—Rachel Werner (Director, Professional Services), Bob Swainhart (Vice President, Enterprise Division), and Seamus Mulroy (Product Manager)—to hear firsthand about their experiences.

From career growth and culture to customer focused stewardship, their stories offer a look behind the scenes at what makes this group of companies thrive. Whether you’re a founder exploring next steps or simply curious about life post-acquisition, their reflections provide perspective on building a meaningful career—and business—within the Perseus ecosystem.

What is it like operating a business inside Perseus Group?

Rachel Werner: Joining a group of companies like Perseus is great because you’re still operating as a small business. You maintain all of the agility, customer relationships, and industry understanding — but now with the added support of a large organization.

What has your career looked like at Perseus Group?

Bob Swainhart: My career journey started in 2014 when I joined Constellation Home Builder Systems. At that time, we significantly grew the company’s revenue, and I was promoted to run the Enterprise Solutions Group.

Seamus Mulroy: I started my career at Perseus in 2020 as an intern with the Homebuilder Group. Coming out of school, I wasn’t familiar with the software industry — and definitely not with the homebuilding industry. What I really appreciated about the Homebuilder Group was their strong customer focus, which is a value consistently emphasized across the organization.

Bob Swainhart: The biggest benefit of joining a company like Constellation Home Builder Systems is becoming part of a team of incredible professionals. The company has been implementing best practices across all of Constellation’s businesses for over 20 years. As a result, we’ve built an efficient, effective team.

Rachel Werner: It’s a great organization. I’ve had the opportunity to take on different roles, grow, and even return after some time away. The culture — particularly within the Homebuilder Group — reflects strong leadership, a supportive environment, and a great overall fit. It’s just a really nice place to work: great teams, great people, and a strong focus.

What advise would you give an owner who is thinking about selling?

Bob Swainhart: Private equity often has a short-term outlook with a goal of monetizing the transaction. At Constellation, we take a different approach. We invest in verticals for the long term. We do what’s right for the software, the customer, the people, and the industry.

Bob Swainhart: Our employees tend to stay with us for a very long time. Our average tenure is over seven years across more than 350 employees. People want to be part of our company, and we provide a clear path to help them succeed — whatever their career goals may be.
