Employee Acquisition Story: Melissa Tunks

At Perseus, every acquisition marks the start of a new chapter for the business, its leaders, and its people. This series highlights the individuals who’ve navigated that change firsthand, finding new avenues for growth, connection, and purpose within the Perseus and Constellation ecosystem.

In this edition, Melissa Tunks reflects on her path from startup life to joining Constellation through acquisition and how the experience shaped her career and her team’s future.

My name is Melissa Tunks. I have been in various vertical market softwares for basically my entire career. I bounced around between a few places before joining an organization that at the time was still in startup mode. And within a couple of years, we were acquired by Constellation

Inevitably, there were a lot of changes, and a lot of great changes for the organization. And in that time, over the years after acquisition, I think a lot of people were able to have the opportunity to grow not only in our organization, but rather within Constellation itself. The support system at Constellation and Perseus Group has been fantastic. I think it’s always felt like we stayed the smaller organization we were, but we were able to pull from all of the benefits of a larger organization.

A piece of advice I would give to someone looking to sell their business to Perseus would be that it’s a great place for your team. Whether it’s a place you plan to stay or you’re planning to leave your business post-acquisition at some point, it’s a really great place for a team. It’s a really great place to grow a business. And the long-term strategy is super important. One other thing I’d like to share came up recently in a conversation with someone who was newly acquired by Constellation, and Perseus in particular, is what you see is what you get. Whatever is being stated, whatever messaging and goals are being talked about, that’s what’s going to happen. And so, there’s kind of nothing hiding behind the curtain. It’s really what you see is what you get attitude that you can really feel good about.
